5 mins for Indigestion

All of us pass gas. And if I may say this in our common terms – all of us burp and fart, some more so than others – and it is normal. But, problems can arise when gas is stuck in our system or we have a stomach infection or people are prone to abdominal discomfort. A lot of people have problems related to indigestion, acidity, abdominal pain/ discomfort and bloating and constipation or diarrhoea; all of which can be extremely uncomfortable. Recently, I went through some ‘Delhi-belly’ myself and it was not fun. So, here is a very relaxing sequence to help the digestive system and heal the involved organs. This is also a great sequence if you suffer from more serious issues such as piles, fissure or proctitis to help in the healing process.

All you need is 5-10 mins of some time on your yoga mat or bed (you can spend more time if you want, of course). You will need two cushions or one big fluffy cushion to support you during this slow vinyasa flow. (Note: Passing of gas is going to be common during this practice, don’t hold back, try to completely let go.)

The sequence includes –

Child’s pose (Balasana)

Extended puppy pose (uttana shishoasana)

Gentle forward folds

Seated Gas release pose (pawanmuktasana) – it really does what the name suggests 😛

Wide legged child’s pose

Apan mudra (can refer to the picture below)

Hope this sequence helps you as it helps me. I’ll be happy to hear how you go!

Love, Div.
