About

Who I am?

I am now a 500 hrs certified yoga teacher, trained in Delhi, India, my birthplace, under the renowned yoga teacher, Seema Sondhi. I’m trained in Ashtanga Vinyasa (300hrs), Prenatal Yoga (100 hrs) & Yin Yoga (100hrs), with Yoga Alliance International accreditation. I’ve been teaching in India & Australia for over 3 years with students from all over the world. My style of teaching incorporates both Yin & Yang, and I specialise in vinyasa flow, power yoga, yin yoga, restorative yoga, yoga therapy & prenatal yoga. I include pranayama and meditation as well as some yoga philosophy in all my classes for I see yoga as a deeper journey of understanding our bodies and ourselves while reaping the many physical, emotional and mental benefits. My teaching practice revolves around the belief that anyone can practice yoga as long as one is willing to give oneself a little amount of time and love.

Apart from yoga certifications, I also hold a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours from India and a Master of Finance degree from Australia. I am also an avid traveller, animal lover, writer, foodie and holistic health enthusiast. While I grew up in Delhi, India, I have come to call Melbourne my home since 2015 – a place that I absolutely love exploring. My constant mantra is all about exploration which I love doing both on and off the mat!

Why YOGA?

I do come from the land of Yoga – India, and that probably could have been the sole reason behind my yoga practice. However, it did take a few medical conditions and life experiences to get me closer to my passion.

My last semester of masters in finance degree was the blow-horn for the internal war that was raging within my body – cervical spondylitis, polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD), sciatic pains and proneness to hypothyroidism. Clearly, it was a time of bad lifestyle habits including long hours of hunching over my laptop, several take-outs and home delivery, lack of exercise, and so my body started demanding attention. It was only when I suffered from a severe cervical spondylitis pain a week before my final exams, that I realised that I had to make amends. I started with brief sessions of yoga to strengthen my neck and back muscles. To be blatantly honest, the effect was immediate. The excruciating pain became much better and it has not bothered me even once since then. Practicing yoga was probably one of the greatest things I could have done for my health. But, this was not my calling yet.

2017 has been the most difficult and life changing year for my family and I- it was when my mother was diagnosed with a uterine tumour which had to be surgically removed and my father was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. My parents, who have been living one of the healthiest lifestyles since my beginning, and still being diagnosed with these conditions was not just unexpected, but shocking. It was amongst the mindfulness sessions and pranic healing meditation that my parents began doing that I found my true passion for helping people stay healthy inside to build their health on the outside. That is when I decided on embarking on my yoga journey and spreading the light of yoga.

Yoga has provided me with strength, openness and a wonderful sense of unison among my body and mind and a deeper essence of wellness, all of which I love to share!

My Aim?

Once my training as a teacher of Ashtanga vinyasa was completed, my parents became my first students. It was fantastic to see how a small dose of yoga during the week helped with my mom’s sciatic and cervical pains as well as back muscles strength, and with my father’s muscle weakness. As everyone can imagine, for someone with cancer and for their family, it can be the tough. For me, my yoga practice became my coping mechanism in a way, and I saw how a well designed yoga practice could brighten and strengthen my mom and dad too. It was then that I understood the need for yoga and its therapeutic effects to become more accessible to all. Through my practice and with great help from you all, I am hoping to bring yoga, its philosophy, healing properties and health benefits, to anyone who might need or want it.
